Visual Arts at ASM

Tim is using the California Framework and Standards as a reference for the Visual Arts program for grades K-12. Each week, students will be working on a variety of projects in class and at home. He will be meeting with each grade level to develop meaningful and relevant lessons that can be reinforced in your lessons.

For example, KG2 is working on the alphabet, and Monday they are doing the letter "A". In art, students will be drawing ants, alligators, and other animals along with learning about line, shape, and color (3 of the elements of art).

Provided below is a link to the California Visual and Performing Arts Framework and Standards for your review. In addition, each grade level will be given an Art Folder that will have homework assignments, information, a print-out of grade-specific standards, and Visual Art vocabulary you can use in your classroom.

Please feel free to send Tim your general lesson plans, topics, etc. now or you can wait for the meeting that will take place over the next 2 weeks. Thank you, and let's make ASM's Visual Arts Program the best it can be!

Dinner on Wednesday night @ 6:30 & Photos

Teachers will be meeting at 6:30 p.m. in front of the Koutoubia mosque, across from the Medina, then we will head over to our host's riad for dinner!

Also, your photo will be taken for a newsletter that will be distributed on the first day of school. If you want to prepare a short, 3 line biography about yourself beforehand, it would help us complete the newsletter!

Summer Vacation is Over :( -- but you are in Marrakech!

On Tuesday, September 1, 2009:
The bus will leave from Victor Hugo just near the Renoir apartments at 7:45.
Palacio residents- pick up is directly across from La Colisee, the movie theater. Travel left after leaving the building and the bus runs through the main avenue of Yacoub El Mansour. 7:50-7:55.
The bus stops at Hotel Abib in Gueliz for 5 minutes (many staff members catch it here) 8-8:05
It will then continue to Cafe Reda for the next major stop. (8:05-8:10)

There are a couple more small stops. This is a new route so we will adjust accordingly, once the first day is done everyone will get a sense of how it works,

Ryan

P.S Dress is casual for this week, you'll be moving things around in your classrooms, etc.

Documents to Bring

Karim would like to remind new faculty members to bring:

Teacher Certification, if applicable
University transcripts
Updated resume

From someone who has gone through the experience of relocating to a new country, it's okay to have apprehension and perhaps even worry about such a life change and living in a foreign country. The best advice I could give would be to enter with an open mind and don't be afraid to explore and have experiences, the best way to experience Marrakech is to walk its streets.

Thank you, Ryan!

Arriving in Marrakech

In the next few weeks we will be making our way toward Marrakech. Please notify Ryan of your itinerary (flight #, arrival time, etc.) so that arrangements can be made for someone to meet you at the airport.

You may be in the process of packing, shopping, and deciding what to bring. Feel free to post any comments here or ask questions about what you should bring.

We inquired about pets and Morocco does not have a quarantine policy, but the U.S. has procedures for ensuring that pets are healthy enough to travel and have the proper immunizations. There are some organizations out there that provide "Pet Passports" and other items for pet travel. It would be a good idea to make sure the apartments accept pets before making arrangements. We hope your travels are safe, and please enjoy the rest of your summer dreaming of Marrakech!
